Cold nights and spectacular days in Peru’s Colca Valley

After leaving beautiful Arequipa, we spent our last 3 days in Peru in the Andes mountains, in Valle de Colca. The first 2 days, we camped close to the village Yanque with beautiful sunshine and pleasant temperatures for long hikes during the day, but with very cold nights – getting out of the sleeping bags in the morning in sub-zero conditions, became a test of “survival”.

Thus, somewhat to compensate a little, we spent the last day and night in the Colca Lodge with its thermal waters and dinner/breakfast included in their overlanders´ offer. The photo below is from one of my dips in the lodge´s thermal waters. A stay at the Colca Lodge is highly recommended – somewhat expensive, but worth it if needing a rest (which we certainly did).
