The drive from El Cafafate to El Chaltén offered us an incredibly beautiful scenery by mixing the typical Argentine steppe with views of blue-green-grey lakes and white peaks of the Andes in short distance. The famous Route 40 thus gave us all we could ask for and more. More, because it was both warm and sunny, and by miracle also exceptionally calm, i.e. without the traditional Patagonian wind. We arrived after about 230 km, the last 60 or so km with a clear view of the large lake Viedma.
