Lago Jeinimeni – Patagonia National Park

After resting a day at a Chile Chico camp site, and restoring our provisions (naturally we always fill the diesel tank when we have the opportunity), we headed east to visit Lago Jeinimeni and the Vulcanic mountain formations on the way (La Piedra Clavada etc.).

P

At the camp site at the Jeinimeni lake, we were less than 10 people next to the incredibly beautiful lake and river. Incredible – not least the warning of Pumas crossing the wooden bridge in front of our tent each night.

After a cold night with rain showers, we woke up to clearing skies which soon turned brightly sunny.  We had breakfast as usual of cereal (similar to “Njø”, but not quite as advanced), yogurt and fruit and coffee.

Then we set out on our planned 20 km trek, first along Lake Jeinimeni – in a very smooth terrain, while keeping open eyes for Pumas and Puma tracks.

Incredibly, the color of the lakes kept on changing color depending on the sun and clouds – different shades of blue, green, and turquoise.  Also the mountains’ colors kept on varying from grey, brown, beige to green and yellow depending on the vegetation. Very beautiful it was – and almost no one – all day we only met a young couple trekking downhill early in the morning.

After hiking, Mona took a dip in the ice-cold lake and even I dipped my legs to cool off my feet after the hike, And then, finally dinner time with lentils, rice and salad – not to mention a glass and two of Chilean wine. Yes, life is good!

We stayed 2 nights at the campground – trying to wake up early to see the Pumas crossing the bridge in front of our tent……, however we ended up being interrupted by a heavy downpour of rain and when we finally slept we did not wake up until the morning.

However, when leaving, the park-ranger laughed and showed us a video of Pumas crossing the bridge that very night. 😊

Another epic experience in our Patagonian expedition! And a day of relaxing from the tension of driving the truck!
