The hotel Tuki Llajta Huancayo appearing out of nowhere

This is just a small anecdote of how you sometime get help sometimes when feeling lost…… We had been driving most of the day – probably too long and for too long time – and we had already in vain approached several possible campgrounds and potential lodgings. It was getting late, and our pace was painfully slow mostly on back-country dirt roads. We also experienced that our GPS several times led us to non-existent or closed hotels or inns…. Eventually, hitting my limit, I pulled off the road outside a closed hotel gate, assuming that this also was seasonally closed.

However, a taxi suddenly approached the gate from the inside….. (the hotel is literally on a mountain top and there is a narrow dirt road leading up the mountainside to the hotel). We saw this as an opportunity to “talk to someone” from the establishment about lodging for a night. And so, we did, and soon our prayers for a bed and something to eat became reality. Soon the Land Cruiser was parked in front of a simple cottage, and we were sitting in front of the fireplace (someone eating a well-deserved piece of fruit and someone drinking a bear with some snack).

And the best of all – a good night’s sleep with breakfast included the next morning! When camping for a long time, one learns to really appreciate these small things.
