The next day we decided to follow a dirt road from Jerico to Jardin. On the way out of Jerico we consulted a local police officer, who confirmed that the road in principle was open. He also recommended “not to stop anywhere” along the route… Well, nice to know… and we assumed, as is quite common among well-meaning law enforcement officers, that he was just exaggerating.
Once we left Jerico, things quickly became interesting. Due to the heavy rain, the tracks were very muddy, and rivers were running high. But it was fun, on narrow and curvy roads with some very steep climbs in between. Better to take it easy and keep your attention! If something goes wrong, we knew it would be challenging to get out of there…
About halfway, and past the muddiest section, we ignored the police-advice and stopped for coffee in a tiny village (what was the name where we stopped for coffee?).
Here we met two motorcyclists going in the opposite direction and warned them of the upcoming muddy sections – better four wheels with power on each than 2 on the mud. I am sure their riding skills were put to a test before reaching Jerico.

We reached beautiful Jardin (meaning “garden”) a while later – slowly approaching the village through the forest following a steep mountain pass. We spent 3 hours driving only about 50 km. And we drove as fast as we felt was safe.
